The Aviary was a temporary events pavilion installed for the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. It made inventive use of material and space to create an enticing playground for guests to enjoy fine food and drink while at the world famous horse racing carnival.
A commentary on the wasteful, disposable nature of such events, our marquee design was totally salvaged and reused. The timber trusses were on-sold and used as the structure for a shed, the furniture was specified for other projects and the floor, consisting of 3 kilometres of pine, was unscrewed and used as wall framing on another project. The ceiling, made from mirrored alucobond, was not only reused but was specified to ensure natural light levels remained high during the event, as no electric light was designed into the project.
